handle data

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Additionally, many law firms, as well as some vendors, still use one single platform to handle data. A knowledgeable and technologically adept litigation support provider realizes that the one-size-fits-all approach is inadequate and, instead, offers multiple solutions to fit different case and data needs.

Evangeline Lilly Poses in Lingerie for Kids Charity Auction - eBay Finds
Have you ever ever wanted to see Evangeline Lilly in her underwear while also helping support a children's charity, thus offsetting any voyeuristic guilt? Well, pretty soon (the dates have not yet been announced) you will be able to finally live out that fantasy on eBay of all places. The LOST star has teamed up with eBay Giving Works and a charity named Task Brazil in order to auction off pieces R Favela. The proceeds from the auction will go to support Brazilian kids living in the slums.

Our friends at Ecorazzi stumbled upon this video, which we assume will be featured on the auction page, along with images of the former Cool Water spokesmodel wearing the Brazilian lingerie.

As far as any news about when the bidding will start, we can only guess. She did mention the charity auction in passing on her latest appearance on Good Morning America on January 27th -- so we think it'll be soon. We have yet to find the auction, so if you do run across it, please send the link our way. [via Ecorazzi]

Utmp British Fashion Awards Honor Burberry’s Baile

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

The champagne is surely flowing at Christopher Bailey’s house.

Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer was dually blessed at last night’s British Fashion Awards, taking home both the award for Designer of the Year and for Designer Brand of the Year, reports the Daily Mail.

Clutching his bookends (left), Bailey also used the opportunity to officially announce that Burberry will be returning to London Fashion Week in February, as we previously reported. The British brand had been showing in Milan until last season’s homecoming in honor of the British Fashion Council’s 25th anniversary.

Another big winner of the night was rock heiress Georgia May Jagger, who beat out Daisy Lowe and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for the Model of the Year award.

The BFC British Collection of the Year honor went to Christopher Kane, while Katie Hillier was named Accessory Designer of the Year.

Vogue’s fiery-haired breakout star, Grace Coddington, won the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, while Dior’s John Galliano walked away with the award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design, according to the paper.

Dunhill’s Kim Jones nabbed Menswear Designer of the Year, while Swarovski’s Emerging Talent Award went to Holly Fulton for accessories and Peter Pilotto for ready-to-wear.

And last but not least, Kate Moss scored the London 25 award, which honors those who serve as an “international ambassador” for London fashion, according to the Daily Mail.

(Admit it — you thought the 25 referred to her weight.)

Meanwhile, see who landed on the British Fashion Council’s Power List.

Gjum Vermietete Häuser und Wohnungen sind derzeit

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Gfzg Developers ignore Symbian’s derision of Andro

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Symbian, then, would do well not to spend time calling the kettle black, as it did when Lee Williams, director of the Symbian Foundation, derided Android as pseudo-open source:

Maybe, maybe not. But if developers have any say in the matter–developers that are choosing Android over Symbian three times as often–Android may soon be about much more than just Google marketing hype.

Despite commanding a dominant market share of 46.6 percent in global mobile operating systems, Symbian, which was announced as an open-source project in 2008, has a ways to go before it can nominate itself as the leader in open-source mobile operating systems.

Hype is apparently in the eye of the beholder, and asking Symbian to gauge the merits ofGoogle Android may be like asking the fox to be a judge for the hens’ beauty contest.

Black Duck’s data comes from analysis of 185,000 open-source projects from 4,000 different Web sites. It found that while Apple’siPhone has spawned 266 related open-source projects, Google Android is close on its heels with 191. Symbian? In 2008, it helped to birth just 64 open-source projects, falling behind Windows Mobile’s 174 projects.

Developers ignore Symbian's derision of Android

Symbian has dismissed Google’s open-source credentials for Android as merely “marketing.” Open-source developers, however, are much less cavalier, finding substance in Android, according a new report from Black Duck Software.

Matt Asay brings a decade of in-the-trenches open-source business and legal experience to The Open Road, with an emphasis on emerging open-source business strategies and opportunities. Android is not open. It’s a marketing label. It’s controlled by Google. It’s a pretty label, but I don’t think the use of Linux is synonymous with open, and they may have made that mistake of assuming it is.

Data breaches cost $6.6 million on average, survey finds

It costs $6.6 million on average when an organization suffers a data breach, and more than $200 per compromised record, according to a survey conducted by the Ponemon Institute that’s due to be released on Monday.

Forty-four percent of the organizations surveyed reported a breach by a third party, such as a contractor or outsourcer, and more than 88 percent of all cases this year involved incidents resulting from insider negligence, according to the study.

Uvuz Clearwire selects Cisco to help build 4G netw

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

AT&T and Verizon Wireless, the two largest cell phone operators in the country, have already said they plan to use a competing technology known as LTE to build their 4G networks. Verizon will begin testing its this year and expects to begin commercial deployments of the service early in 2010.

Clearwire is building a nationwide wireless broadband network using WiMax. Late last year, it merged its wireless assets with spectrum from Sprint Nextel. And it has received billions of dollars in investment from Google, Intel, Comcast, and Time Warner.

Marguerite Reardon has been a CNET News reporter since 2004, covering cell phone services, broadband, citywide Wi-Fi, the Net neutrality debate, as well as the ongoing consolidation of the phone companies. E-mail Maggie.

Suraj Shetty, vice president of worldwide service provider marketing for Cisco, said that Cisco will still focus its WiMax business on building radio equipment for fixed broadband in the developing world. And he added that the deal with Clearwire is only to supply Internet infrastructure and consumer devices for Clearwire.

The company has said that by the end of 2010 it expects to have service in over 80 markets with access to more than 120 million customers.

Cisco, which is the world’s largest supplier of Internet infrastructure equipment, has also been developing WiMax radio gear for a while. The company bought WiMax equipment maker Navini in 2007. But the company has mainly focused its WiMax radio products on fixed WiMax offerings that deliver broadband service to businesses and homes in areas where traditional land-based broadband infrastructure is unavailable.

Clearwire selects Cisco to help build 4G network

Clearwire named networking equipment maker Cisco Systems as a key supplier to help it build its nationwide 4G wireless network, the companies announced Wednesday.

The companies did not disclose financial terms of the agreement.

As part of the new strategic partnership, Cisco will provide IP routers and other equipment to build Clearwire’s network, which uses a technology called WiMax. Cisco will also develop some consumer devices that can be used on the network. Cisco wouldn’t provide specifics about the new products, but a Cisco representative said that these devices will be sold under the Linksys brand and are expected to be introduced later this year.
