blog:Chang’e I to play Chinese tunes in outer space
By admin. Filed in Life |CHINA’S first lunar satellite Chang’e I will broadcast 30 classical Chinese songs after it enters its orbit around the moon, the Shanghai Evening Post reported today.
The songs will also be broadcast on TV and radio here on Earth, the report said.
The tunes were selected in a nationwide poll initiated by the Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense in July 2006 from a list of 150 candidates, the report said.
Thirty tunes thought to be extremely patriotic and indicative of Chinese culture were selected. They include such works as “Ode to the motherland” and “The butterfly lovers,” the report said.
The national anthem “The march of the volunteers” and “The ode to Chairman Mao,” which was played in 1970 to commemorate China’s first satellite, Red East I, will also be on the list because of their unique significance, the report said.
